The Old Fisherman and the Pelican
The Old Fisherman and the Pelican is written for older students in grades 4-6. It tells the true story of a fisherman who notices a pelican wrapped in monofilament line. He is caught in some bushes on a small mangrove island, "Poor bird," he said to himself. "He must be dead." However, he sees him blink one eyelid and knows he is still alive. He takes him to a veterinarian who is able to remove the hook and heal the wound. The fisherman lets the bird go into the sunset sky. |
